Limmericks inspired by 'Appointment at Samara'

There once was a servant from Baghdad
who began to think he was half mad
as death said "its time,
its the end of the line"
which gives us an ending quite sad

To frighten was never the plan
but death is inevitable to man
no matter how you run
when your time is done
Hells hot, I guess you should bring a fan

Gin and Tonic

The women want "rights"
while the soldiers go to fight
but I just want my Gin and Tonic

Every minute there's a siren
"Bang!" another life's gone
but I just want my Gin and Tonic

Survival of the fittest
whos next on the hitlist?
I just want my Gin and Tonic

Then a sudden bomb drops,
and the pub falls to rocks
whilst my heart slowly stops.

My glass breaks
my hand shakes
my body aches

Now through the rocks
spills my Gin and Tonic...

Untitled

BNP and the Ku Klux Klan,
hate me cause I'm not the shade of a white man!?
But that same white mans' tryna get a sun tan?
Obama said change,
I know that we can.
They said my skins too dark
my lips too big.
Heard racist comments ever since I was a kid
but,
I aint gonna cry
or even get mad,
cause it's the black on black violence that gets me
so sad.
Watching the news,
thats all I can see,
another fatal stabbing and a dead body.
To me? Thats just reality -
time to influence the youths in society,
to do what's right and never what's wrong
cause if you do whats wrong
you aint gonna live long.
Blacks and whites unite and stay real strong.

A Child Of Adam And Eve
There are no ‘immigrant children’
Cluttering up the land;
There is only a tyke on a beat-up bike,
Beginning to understand.

There are no ‘urchin children’,
Scavenging on the street;
There is only a mite in endless flight,
And never enough to eat.

There are no ‘Oxfam children’,
The world is grown too small;
There is only the choice — a kindly voice,
Or the shaming of us all.

There are no ‘orphan children’,
Whatever we may believe;
There is only this — a hug and a kiss
For a child of Adam and Eve.

Poem I liked from the 'Coventry Words' - september 2013

MARY

"Stop! it's too dangerous!" a voice screams behind him. "Please don't
go in..." the voice trails off. Walls of billowing smoke consume him,
but he knows his way. He stumbles into the bedroom, "Mary, I'm
here!" Collapsing onto the bed, he grabs the old picture frame and
                                                                closes his eyes.

I really liked this poem, as a vivid image was instantly created in my mind. In this poem, it seems as if the protagonists wife or lover previously died in perhaps a fire, which is evident through the description "billowing smoke consume him". The faint dialogue he repeatedly hears, could be the haunting voices of the fire brigade restraining him from entering the room where the fire was. Through his exclamatory "Mary, i'm here!"  it highlights his guilt but determination to make it up to her somehow.

Made me think..

Marys thoughts

I stared blankly,
hunched like a foetus
couldn't comprehend why they'd wanna kill
Jesus.
Couldn't they just leave us,
happy?
Could it be it was jealousy?
"The virgin Mary,
she had a baby?"
But my son didn't trouble anybody
i'm sorry.
He was a mirale worker,
any form of disease i'm sure he could cure ya.

I witnessed him,
crucified on the cross,
now everywhere I go
"Miss i'm sorry for your loss"
but you're not.
And this pain wont stop.
I wanna just kill myself,
but you and I know that's a sin in its self.

So i'm just gonna pretend,
that this isn't the end -
and some way, some how
i'll have my son with me
again.

A poem I was intoduced to and really liked since year 5..

Prose rant

Misjudgement or prejudgement,
of a human without an indepth knowledge of ones interior.
Making them feel inferior.
Solid, negative conclusion of a character,
due to association, past experience, ignorance or just
a miniscule mind?
That person could've been one of a kind.
Is it that hard to emphasise?
Put yourself in someone elses shoes:
no matter what the colour, shape or size.
Smile more, love more, and embrace,
each and every person from the human race.
